TRIBUTE BOXING

Packing a Punch for a Knock Out Finish!

Tribute Boxing Gym recently moved into their new space in the Undercroft of Collins Square in the Melbourne Docklands. Peckvonhartel and NDYLight were commissioned by Walker Corporation, on behalf of Tribute Gym, to reinvigorate the previously unused zone beneath Collins Street Bridge and deliver a functional training space offering a fresh twist on the stereotypical boxing gym.

At the centre of the design sits a bespoke boxing ring which seemingly floats above the ground, achieved through the use of a recessed continuous mirror. A structural steel clamp system allows the custom DARKON SLIM C extrusion lighting and services to hang throughout the space without any negative effect on the Collins Street bridge above. The central ring ties the space together, acting as the design centrepiece of the functional training space.

The completion of the space marks the final project of a three-stage upgrade to the Collins Street Undercroft. The upgrade included an End of Trip facility, Good Cycles bike shed and Tribute Boxing Gym; all three designed and delivered by Peckvonhartel with lighting inclusions manufactured by DARKON. Reviving the heart of Melbourne’s Western Precinct, Collins Square is Australia’s second largest commercial mixed use development; comprising five commercial towers and the Southern Goods Shed. An entire city block, Collins Square totals 250,000sqm built above a 10,000sqm retail podium.
